My Story

I suffer from Ankylosing Spondylitis. A very serious and at this point, incurable type of arthritis. In order to stay mobile I have to exercise. If I don't, my joints and spine will fuse together. Exercising doesn't help with the pain, but it is keeping me walking and out of a wheelchair.
I have always wanted to compete in a triathlon. It has taken over a year to be strong enough to do my first one. I want to show that with hard work and determination, anything is possible. A year ago I was struggling to breath and at times couldn't walk. Not everyone with Ankylosing Spondylitis is as lucky as I am. This disease can be very painful and debilitating.
The average length of time it takes to be diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis is 10 years and there is to no cure. Money is needed for research and to help support half a million new Zealanders living with arthritis.
The Arthritis Foundation of New Zealand needs your help to do this. Please sponsor me on this journey. Help me to raise awareness for this disease.

Arthritis can affect any one of us at any time - babies, children, working age, elderly. Its a painful, unpredictable condition that impacts on our ability to work, play or carry out every day tasks.

1 in 6 people have arthritis. Today 50 people of working age are being diagnosed. 1,000 young people are living with the condition.

Arthritis New Zealand is improving the lives of people affected by arthritis, in many different ways - from information sessions to self-management workshops, exercise classes to kids camp, as well as campaigning and raising awareness.
